Product description
Six-Light Chandelier Materials: Glass and nickel-plated metal Maker: Atelier Petitot Paris Style: Art Deco Period: 1930s Country of origin: France Good condition considering its age and use Dimensions: 87 x 66 x 66 cm An exceptional six-light Art Deco chandelier by Atelier Petitot, Paris, circa 1930, in nickel-plated metal. It projects a pleasant, warm, and diffused light through its frosted and carved opal glass shades. The structure is made of nickel-plated brass, with a central stem that branches into six arms, each topped with an upward-facing opal glass shade. The lampshades are carved with illustrious geometric motifs characteristic of Art Deco, with rows of triangular shapes that dance across the surface, and striated and grooved details in the frosted and molded glass that reinforce the lamp's outer profile. These geometric motifs are reflected in the metal of the canopy. A marvelous lamp, a true example of Art Deco lighting. About the Art Deco Style The term Art Deco was defined in the 1960s to refer to the art that emerged during the interwar period. It was a style that developed in all facets of design and reached its peak at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris (1925). Art Deco is characterized by its use of straight lines and geometric volumes; it is a style that arose from the combination of different trends. Some of the major influences on Art Deco are the avant-garde art movements, mechanization, and the archaeological discoveries made in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Art Deco differs from other artistic periods as it is a purely decorative style where artists focus on creating attractive and balanced pieces that reflect the society of the time.
