A spectacular oil on canvas titled “Castilian Landscape” by the Valladolid artist Félix Antonio González, dated 1980. The work presents, in an almost minimalist style, a typical Castilian countryside landscape characterized by a yellow horizon and a grayish-blue sky. Up close, the chromatic details of each feature are evident: in the yellow area, slightly darker brushstrokes create dimension, while in the blue, grayer strokes simulate the texture of a cloudy sky. Signed in the lower right corner. The work has a black wooden frame with decorations and a small white passe-partout.
Félix Antonio González (Valladolid, 1921-2009) was a Spanish painter and journalist active primarily during the second half of the 20th century. He studied Philosophy and Letters at the University of Valladolid and began his journalistic career at Diario Regional in 1942. In 1953, Francisco de Cossío hired him for El Norte de Castilla, where he became popular under the pseudonym 'Ansúrez'. In 1963, under the editorship of Miguel Delibes, he became deputy editor. Two years later, after Delibes' departure, he was appointed director and remained in the position until 1967, when he moved to Valencia. Associated with figurative painting, he developed a career focused on portraits, landscapes, and scenes of everyday life, in which a clear interest in capturing light and atmosphere is evident. His pictorial language is characterized by a loose, impasto brushstroke, as well as an expressive use of color, elements that lend his compositions a remarkable plastic sensibility. Throughout his career, he participated in numerous exhibitions, and his work circulated primarily within gallery and private collections, establishing himself as a representative example of the continuity of the figurative tradition in 20th-century Spanish painting.
