Dubbed a "basket of cushions," the LC2 club chair is an iconic masterpiece of modernist design. Originally conceived in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand for the Salon d’Automne, the chair exemplifies their groundbreaking approach to form and function. This particular example is an early production piece from the 1970s, identifiable by its low serial number, 16671, stamped on the frame. It has been remarkably well-preserved, originating from a director’s office where it saw minimal use. The chair remains in beautiful original condition, with its soft, matte leather showing no scratches or blemishes, a testament to its careful care over the years. The cushions are filled with feathers, giving the chair its signature puffy and inviting appearance. Sitting on an early LC2 is a unique experience, markedly different from modern reproductions. The feather-filled cushions compress deeply under weight, conforming to the body and offering an indulgent, cozy comfort.
Over time, the natural fillings may flatten or shift, requiring occasional fluffing to redistribute the material and maintain the chair’s plush appearance. As such, one might consider refilling the seat cushion for additional support, though this is by no means necessary for those who appreciate the authentic, lived-in charm.
