Fast and very careful shipping. Carl Fagerlund: Many museums, churches, and headquarters of large companies house the works of the Scandinavian modernist lighting designer Carl Fagerlund. Initially an illustration teacher, Fagerlund moved into the world of lighting in the 1940s with the advantage of having an artist's eye. Today, his table lamps, chandeliers, wall lights, and other luminaires enrich homes and continue to captivate collectors worldwide. In the early 1940s, Fagerlund taught drawing to aspiring artists at Solbacka läroverk, a private Swedish boarding school inspired by proven institutions of this type in the United Kingdom. Shortly after, he accepted a job designing provocative wall lights and other wall-mounted luminaires in brass and textured glass for a Stockholm manufacturing company called ASEA (Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget, or General Swedish Electric Company Limited). However, Fagerlund is best known for his work at Orrefors Glassworks, a legendary glass factory in Småland that gained worldwide renown for its products after presenting a range of decorative objects and art glass at the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts - the great design fair that drew the world's attention to Art-Decor. C. Fagerlund joined Orrefors in 1946 and, for over three decades, designed pendants, recessed lighting, a range of Murano glass works, and other richly complex mid-century modernist luminaires. Fagerlund's creations can be found at Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, a "castle" museum that was once the private residence of royalty, the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo, and the headquarters of General Motors, U.S.A. in Detroit, Michigan.
