Offered for sale: a stunning and rare vintage butterfly wing painting (Butterfly Wing Art) from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This handmade artwork dates from the Art Deco era (1930s–1950s) and is in beautiful, authentic condition. The background and details of the two crested birds (inspired by Audubon's famous "Columbia Jay") are inlaid with the real, iridescent wings of the deep blue Morpho butterfly and contrasting yellow and brown butterfly species. The colors light up beautifully when the light falls on them. The details of the birds are hand-painted on the inside of the glass (reverse glass painting). The painting is housed in the original, very refined wooden frame with geometric inlay (marquetry). Unique detail: The back features the original and rare paper factory label from the renowned maker Formanek (Rua do Acre 82-1, Rio de Janeiro). This makes it a sought-after item for the serious collector.
Size: 22 x 16 cm (including frame)
Condition: In very good vintage condition. The woodwork is intact and the blue colors of the wings have been excellently preserved over the years (no moisture damage). Fitted with original hanging eyelet.
