An excellent example of the ever-popular Abbess desk with double base in oak. These desks are often referred to as 'teacher's desks', but this one comes from the private office of a manager at Toyota Cars in Warwickshire. It dates from around 1940 and is in excellent original condition. The internal locking mechanism of the drawers is still fully intact. A spring mechanism locks all 6 drawers when the middle drawer is closed and locked with the key. It is very rare for these original mechanisms to still be intact and working. To unlock all the drawers, simply unlock the middle drawer and push it out slightly to unlock all the drawers of the desk. The desk has a beautiful, rich colour and is a very good size. The original Abbess letter tray is still present, as are all the brass feet. The feet can be turned out to level the desk on uneven floors or to raise the entire desk by approximately 30 mm (maximum). A very fine example.
