Beautiful set of two heavy, Brutalist mid-century modern candlesticks from the 1960s/70s.
This rare pair is a fantastic example of the sculptural and Brutalist design of the middle of the last century. The candlesticks are crafted from heavy, solid cast metal (brass/bronze) and feature a unique, architectural arch shape.
The ends are decorated with a beautiful recessed geometric relief in the shape of a meander/Greek key. This clean pattern forms a brilliant contrast with the robust, characteristic texture of the cast metal. The underside is hollow, attesting to an authentic, manual casting process.
Stylistically, these candlesticks align perfectly with the high-quality Scandinavian Modernism of that period (such as the work of Pierre Forsell for Skultuna), as well as with the renowned French Brutalist style of Monique Gerber (L'Art du Bronze). The pieces are unsigned, which was common practice at the time for these small-scale, artistic casting productions. An absolute eye-catcher on a vintage sideboard, a modern minimalist table, or in an eclectic interior.
