Bronze art deco statue of Christ, profile in relief, mounted on a black marble base, rare art object by Italian artist Salvatore Melani, made in Belgium in the late 1920s, early 1930s, signed on the side of the statue 'S. Melani'.
Salvatore Melani (1902-1934) was an Italian artist who died at the very young age of 32, he lived in Belgium and worked there for the Belgian sculpture factory "Carli" in Brussels, there he stayed with artists such as R. Aurili, Guelfo Guelfi, M. Togneri, Johannes Dommisse, etc.
It is clear that the artists inspired each other, for example, there are works by Johannes Domisse in the same profile style like this sculpture.
This sculpture is in very good vintage condition, with signs of age and use befitting its age, a tiny chip as well as a hairline crack in the marble base, but hardly noticeable and the whole thing is still very solid and sturdy, check the photos for more details!
