The sofa designed by Brockmann Petersen and produced by Randers Møbelfabrik in the 1970s combines the solidity of an oak frame with the elegance of leather upholstery, representing the mature phase of Danish modernism, when designers increasingly embraced local wood species instead of imported teak.
The construction is based on a solid oak frame whose angled legs and smoothly contoured armrests give the form its characteristic lightness. The backrest, tilted at a comfortable angle, forms a cohesive line with the seat, while button tufting divides the upholstery surface into three distinct segments. The wooden elements are finished with an oil‑wax coating that protects the surface and highlights the natural grain pattern. The resilient medium‑firm seat provides comfort without excessive softness.
Randers Møbelfabrik was among the Jutland manufacturers that helped build the international reputation of Danish furniture in the post‑war period. By designing for this factory, Brockmann Petersen contributed to the democratisation of good design — creating furniture that combined craftsmanship with forms accessible to a wider audience. The 1970s in Denmark marked a shift toward local wood species, with oak gradually replacing exotic rosewoods and teak that had dominated the previous decade.
The sofa works well as a central element of a living room or a representative office. The width of the seat comfortably accommodates three people, and the depth provides stable back support. The warm tone of oak and the brown leather with stylish vintage patina complement both classic interiors and modern arrangements seeking natural accents.
The piece is in very good condition. The vintage‑style leather upholstery has been newly made. The wooden frame shows minor scratches and small scuffs, reflecting authentic use.
