This is a small to medium-sized powerful eagle species with 55-65cm in length and a wingspan of 145-165cm. It takes 5 years for a Hawk Eagle to have its adult plumage as described below. The upperparts are dark brown, and the underside is white with dark stripes. The adult form shows a white mantle patch in flight and has a protruding wing bend with a straight trailing edge. The wings are relatively short and rounded. In flight, the wing tips are moderate for such an eagle. The long tail is gray above and white below.
