Black and White Pendant Light by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos, 1965.
For sale: Black and White pendant light, designed by brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for the legendary Milanese lighting company Flos, an original creation from 1965.
The Black and White takes its name from its unique, dual lighting philosophy: a white opaline glass dome diffuses a soft, enveloping light thanks to three internal bulbs, while a lower reflector in polished, mirror-like aluminum focuses a downward beam thanks to a fourth bulb with a silver cap. Two distinct lighting schemes, two radically different atmospheres, a single object of absolute formal coherence—this is precisely the genius of the Castiglioni brothers. The piece is referenced in the complete catalogue raisonné of Achille Castiglioni published by Electa Architecture Milan, as well as in the 1985 monographic exhibition at the Centre Georges Pompidou.
An early edition in superb overall condition, with intact opaline glass and a few minor marks consistent with the piece's age. Original mechanism in working order.
