Elegant bistro table from the 1920s with a robust cast-iron leg.
The leg is marked: "BASTILLE, VERIERE, PARIS".
Maison Veriere was a famous café in the Bastille district of Paris, located on the Cour Damoye.
The table was later fitted with the traffic sign (the marble top likely broke at some point).
Height: 70 cm.
Ø: 50 cm.
Origin: France, 1920s.
Material: cast iron, enameled steel.
Cour Damoye: With a length of just over 120 meters and a width of 6 meters, the Cour Damoye connects Place de la Bastille and Rue Daval.
The passage was restored in the 1990s and reopened to the public in June 1999.
As soon as you leave the chaos of the busy Place de la Bastille behind you, you enter one of the most beautiful back streets of Paris. Where ragpickers, pickpockets, and prostitutes once dominated, you now find communication and design agencies, shops, and apartments.
