Beautiful authentic Chinese jewelry box made of high-quality reddish-brown hardwood (rosewood).
This specific piece is unique and sought after because it is fully complete with the original hardware and a verified provenance. The box is in excellent condition!
The two hinged doors are inlaid with two large, hand-carved openwork panels of translucent white jade/soapstone. Beautifully finished with detailed engraved brass fittings on the corners, hinges, and latch.
The large round brass fitting on top displays the traditional character Shuangxi (Double Fortune), flanked by stylized bats for prosperity. The corner pieces are handcrafted with openwork in the shape of butterflies. Also equipped with a sturdy brass handle.
This jewelry box includes the original, working Chinese brass bar lock with the accompanying key to securely lock the cabinet from the front.
Behind the doors are 3 handy storage drawers with brass pull loops. The top drawer has a special soft ring cushion for inserting rings. The bottom drawers feature convenient dividers.
There is a fourth, wide drawer at the bottom, also decorated with inlaid stone ornaments and a brass handle.
An authentic pressed factory number (quality control) is located in the bottom right leg.
All drawers are luxuriously lined on the inside with the original, bright fuchsia-pink silk/satin lining featuring traditional Chinese floral patterns. This allows jewelry to be stored scratch-free.
The cabinet features the original metal nameplate on the back with the inscription "Shanghai - Made in China". This confirms that this is an authentic mid-century export model (approx. 1950s/1960s) and not a modern reproduction.

Condition:
Very good vintage condition with an atmospheric patina of age. The woodwork is sturdy (featuring beautiful dovetail joints at the bottom), the drawers slide smoothly, and the brass shines beautifully. No missing parts or major damage. See the extensive photo series for all exact details.
The cabinet is compact and can be shipped by post very carefully, wrapped thickly in bubble wrap (shipping costs and risk for the buyer). Collection is, of course, also possible by arrangement.
