The Moooi Smoke Dining Chair is an absolute milestone in modern Dutch Design, designed by Maarten Baas in 2002 and released by the design label Moooi. The groundbreaking concept behind this piece of furniture is that a classically shaped chair is literally burned. The charred wood is then meticulously treated and sealed with a liquid epoxy resin, permanently halting the material's decay and ensuring the chair retains its full functional strength for daily use at the dining table.
Because each frame is handcrafted in this unique way, no two chairs are exactly alike; each piece features its own unique pattern of cracks and charcoal textures. The seat and backrest of this specific Moooi Smoke Dining Chair are luxuriously upholstered and crafted from high-quality black cowhide leather. This particular piece is in excellent, inspected condition, with the leather upholstery supple and free of damage, and the load-bearing epoxy structure remaining fully intact.
