Product description
The Fenix chaise lounge designed by Sam Larsson for the Swedish company Dux is an interesting example of 1960s Scandinavian design, clearly influenced by the functional principles of Bauhaus modernism. The model is based on a simple, technical structure where form follows function—free from unnecessary decoration, yet carefully balanced in terms of comfort and proportion. A defining feature is its chromed steel frame with a light, almost architectural appearance, combined with a suspended leather seat. Constructions of this kind became popular in 1960s modernist furniture, where designers aimed to visually “lighten” furniture and expose the structure itself. The chaise lounge is made from chromed steel and natural leather. The seat has been newly upholstered in high-quality black natural leather, which works beautifully with the cool character of the steel frame while emphasizing the minimalist aesthetic of the design. The chrome-plated metal frame is in good, original condition with signs of age and use in the form of scratches and rust spots. The combination of materials gives the piece a timeless quality typical of modernist lounge furniture. The chaise longue features adjustable seat angles, allowing you to adjust from a sitting position to an almost completely reclining position. The mechanism works perfectly. Stylistically, the Fenix model strongly references Bauhaus and post-war modernism through its clean lines, functional approach, and reduction of form to essential elements only. At the same time, it retains the softer proportions characteristic of Scandinavian design, preventing it from feeling overly technical or cold. In everyday use, the chaise lounge offers a comfortable reclined position suitable for relaxing or reading. The flexibility of the leather seat adapts naturally to the body, while the steel frame provides stability without visual heaviness. It is a piece that draws attention through balance and restraint rather than exaggerated form. Sam Larsson was associated with post-war Swedish modernism, focusing on functional and contemporary furniture design. Dux was one of Sweden’s leading furniture manufacturers of the 20th century, known for high-quality craftsmanship and collaborations with designers shaping Scandinavian modernism. The seat height is from 38 to 46 cm.
