Product description
«Au club hippique» Fran Baró, s. XX – Valencia, Spain “Au club hippique” (“At the Riding Club”), by Valencian artist Fran Baró, is a colorful and pleasant work that captures a relaxed moment at a gathering or event in an equestrian club. The figures depicted, either mounted on their horses or strolling around the grounds, wear the typical red attire associated with equestrian activities. Horse races became prestigious social events, a favorite pastime of the upper classes in Europe at the time. The elite used these events to display themselves and forge relationships. The high regard and dynamism of these events made them an attractive subject for artists such as Degas, Théodore Géricault, and Meissonier, among others. In a context where the privileged classes flaunted their power and status through their leisure time, horse races emerged as one of their favorite pastimes. Which to bet on. The technique directly evokes Impressionism. The artist, using quick and loose brushstrokes, manages to capture the changing light of the landscape, an effect in which he is particularly interested. The way in which the drawing dissolves through the simplification of figures into small, rapid patches of color brings the work to life. Impressionism, born in France in the last third of the 19th century, was an artistic movement defined essentially through painting. It was characterized primarily by its ultimate aspiration to capture the light of a specific moment, for which it used a loose, impasto, and very rapid brushstroke. Thanks to technical and scientific advances, which allowed the creation of new pigments, the use of pure colors also spread. With them, a purity and saturation of colors unthinkable until then was achieved. Complementary colors also became fundamental, along with the type of brushstroke and the total absence of drawing. For this same reason, shadows went from including black in their composition to... These techniques, called “colored shadows,” involved mixing complementary colors to darken them without the need for black. This also helped create a greater sense of depth. Fran Baró (Valencia, 1926 – 2000) Fran Baró was a Spanish painter whose work is characterized by its figurative style, influenced by Impressionism and Realism. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to painting urban landscapes and everyday scenes, particularly excelling in his depictions of French cities such as Paris and Honfleur. His artistic training took place within the cultural environment of post-war Spain, although he moved to France in search of greater opportunities and recognition. In France, Baró found a favorable environment for his painting style, participating in exhibitions and establishing contact with other contemporary artists. Throughout his life, he participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, both in Spain and France. His work was recognized in the field of contemporary art, and his paintings are found in private and public collections. Despite his artistic success, he maintained A discreet figure, far removed from the media spotlight. His legacy endures through his work, which continues to be appreciated for its technical quality and aesthetic sensibility.
