Ceramic vase lamp by Übelacker Keramik – West German Pottery of the 1960s/70s.
This table lamp is based on a ceramic vase by the manufacturer Übelacker, a producer associated with West German Pottery, known in the second half of the 20th century for its decorative studio ceramics with three-dimensional relief designs. The vase features a striking, vertically oriented plant motif, deeply etched into the surface. The vibrant orange glaze accentuates the relief and lends the piece a powerful presence. The vase's form is clear and slightly conical. Typical of many ceramics of this period, it combines a simple basic shape with a highly textured surface.
Total height of the lamp: approx. 52 cm
Height of the vase without socket: approx. 27 cm
The vase was carefully converted into a lamp using a securely anchored, yet removable, plug-in solution. The lamp base is weighted for stability. The vase opening is sealed with a high-quality decorative brass cap, preserving the vase's collector value.
The lamp features an E27 socket made of black Bakelite with a transparent cable, switch, and plug. The cable is routed directly into the socket from the back, eliminating the need to drill holes in the vase.
The lampshade sits atop a 25 cm high frame and is strung with an elastic, multicolored thread—a perfect match for the vase. It measures 22 cm wide at the bottom and 20 cm at the top. When switched on, the vertically arranged threads create a vibrant play of light, projecting colored streaks onto the wall and surrounding area. The warm reds, oranges, and greens echo the vase's colors and enhance the three-dimensional effect of the ceramic relief, resulting in a distinctive and atmospheric lighting effect.
This lamp combines expressive West German ceramics with an unusual, handcrafted lampshade.
A unique piece with a distinct mid-century character.
