Collectible Art Glass Ashtray/Patera – Chřibská Sklárna (designed by Josef Hospodka)
For sale is a beautiful, exceptionally massive ashtray that would also work perfectly as a decorative trinket dish (vide-poche) or as a standalone living room sculpture. The piece dates from the 1960s/1970s and is a spectacular example of post-war organic hand-formed glass design.
Distinguishing Features:
Unique Colors and Technique: The interior of the vessel is decorated with a vibrant, spot-and-smudge composition in contrasting shades of saturated cobalt blue and sunny yellow. The entire piece is encased in a thick layer of clear sodium glass, creating exceptional depth and a three-dimensional effect. Organic form: The characteristically wavy, dynamic edge with recesses and the smoothly formed, massive protrusions at the base (foot) give the piece a light feel despite its considerable weight.
Collectible character: The combination of cobalt and yellow in structural glass from this period is less common on the secondary market and highly sought after by retro design enthusiasts.
