In the 1930s, Art Deco found its way even into devotional objects. Traditional forms became geometrized, marble stood alongside new metallic effects, and the crucifix also became a true element of interior decor. This one boasts a particularly successful design. A large silver-plated metal structure creates a slender silhouette, punctuated by points and small triangular openwork. Against this almost graphic background rests a cross of genuine marble, in cream and ocher shades, traversed by magnificent yellow and gray veining. The gilded metal Christ breaks the deliberate coolness of the silver-plated metal. Its modeling remains classic, with beautiful work on the face, hair, and drapery, while the small INRI placed above reprises the same warm tone. The contrast between silver, gold, and the natural colors of the marble gives the ensemble a remarkable presence. This meeting of religious tradition and modern aesthetics fully belongs to the Art Deco era, around 1930. Household objects then followed the transformations of decorative arts and also adopted the clean lines, symmetry, and material combinations characteristic of the interwar period. Approximately 22 cm in height by 14 cm in width, this crucifix maintains an elegant format, easy to integrate into contemporary decor. On a deep-colored wall, its light marble and silver-plated metal will stand out with great strength. In a more classic interior, amidst paintings, engravings, or antique objects, it will bring that Art Deco touch that precisely prevents the decor from becoming too staid.
