A striking Belgian Art Deco three-seater sofa from circa 1930.
The sofa is characterized by its generous dimensions and strongly sculptural silhouette. Wide, rounded side panels support elegant, waterfall-shaped armrests, while the gently curved backrest and the segments of the upholstery create a balanced architectural composition. The low wooden legs emphasize the sofa's streamlined character.
The sofa still features the original velvet upholstery from that period in a warm beige to mocha color. The reflective pile creates subtle variations ranging from light beige and muted gold to deeper caramel brown, depending on the light, viewing angle, and direction of the fabric. This natural variation gives the upholstery considerable depth and contributes greatly to the authentic character of the piece of furniture.
The sofa originates from the private residence of the family behind Eperon d’Or, the famous Belgian shoe factory in Izegem, where it was part of a complete, matching living room set. Although no maker's mark has been found, the confident proportions, refined upholstery, and expressive curved construction point to high-quality Belgian production.
DxHxL: 88x80x245 cm
Seat height: 41 cm
The internal webbing under the seats, which supports the original spring construction, has been professionally replaced and the undersides have been neatly refinished.
In good original vintage condition with visible signs of age and use, consistent with its approximately ninety-year history. The velvet shows discoloration, color variations, scattered stains, light discoloration, and localized wear. These traces are clearly documented in the photos and contribute to the authentic, time-marked character of the sofa. The sofa is structurally solid and ready for use.
A very decorative and atmospheric Belgian Art Deco sofa, offered separately from the three matching armchairs.
