Product description
A very expressive Belgian Art Deco armchair from circa 1930.
The armchair features a bold, enveloping form, consisting of rounded side panels, wide, waterfall-shaped armrests, and a characteristic semi-circular backrest. The compact proportions are offset by the substantial, sculptural construction, giving the armchair a strong architectural presence while retaining the comfort and intimacy of traditional club armchairs.
The armchair is still upholstered in the original velvet from that period, in a warm beige to mocha shade. The reflective pile creates subtle variations ranging from light beige and muted gold to deeper caramel brown, depending on the light, viewing angle, and direction of the fabric. These natural variations accentuate the curved forms and give the armchair a rich, atmospheric appearance.
The armchairs originate from the private residence of the family behind Eperon d’Or, the famous Belgian shoe factory in Izegem. They originally formed part of a complete, matching lounge set, together with the accompanying three-seater sofa. Although no maker's mark has been found, the confident design, the carefully shaped frame, and the refined upholstery details point to high-quality Belgian production.

The internal webbing under the seat, which supports the original spring construction, has been professionally replaced and the underside has been neatly refinished.
In good original vintage condition with visible signs of age and use, consistent with its approximately ninety-year history. The velvet shows discoloration, color variations, scattered stains, light discoloration, and localized wear. One of the three available chairs has minor damage to the velvet on the backrest. The condition varies slightly per chair and is clearly documented in the photos. All chairs are structurally solid and ready for use.
