In the 1950s and 1960s, Danish designer Arne Wahl Iversen made a name for himself with furniture that was smart, practical, and beautiful. He collaborated extensively with Komfort Møbelfabrik, a Danish manufacturer known for top quality and an eye for detail. This iconic daybed also emerged from that collaboration. The furniture is made of solid teak. At that time, Danish furniture makers preferred working with teak because of its warm color, beautiful grain, and rock-solid quality. The most striking feature of the design is the armrests. They run upwards in a flowing, graceful line from the rear legs and curve slightly outwards. The wood joints are finished so cleanly that the frame appears to consist almost of a single piece. After the Second World War, the way people lived changed. Houses were laid out differently, and there was a demand for furniture with multiple functions. This design addresses this directly: with a simple movement of the hand, you transform this sofa into a comfortable chaise lounge for guests. Because the backrest is not directly attached to the seat but appears to 'float', the design retains its airy appearance in the room. Together with the authentic mottled fabric, this piece perfectly illustrates what Danish design from the sixties is all about: clever applications, beautiful woodwork, and timeless comfort. The woodwork has been fully restored, the upholstery is still in very neat and original condition; this piece of furniture is ready for immediate use and in very fine condition.
