Beautiful vintage armchair model ‘2280’, designed by Rob Parry and produced by Gelderland in the 1960s. The 2280 is a fine example of Parry's minimalist, functional design philosophy. No superfluous details, but a carefully balanced design in which clean lines, honest materials, and a relaxed seating position take center stage.
This armchair comes from the original family in Wijk aan Zee and was originally part of a set with a matching daybed (also available) and a second armchair.
After decades of use and a less successful restoration in the past, the armchair has been carefully restored, with respect for the original design. The steel frame has been completely stripped and repainted in the original color, allowing the clean lines to come fully into their own again. The solid teak armrests have been refinished with a protective satin-matte finish, restoring their warm, natural appearance.
The seat has been completely reconstructed with new foam and upholstered in high-quality dark green wool fabric. This rich color forms a beautiful contrast with the light, slender steel frame and the warm teak armrests.
Characteristic of the 2280 is its clean construction. The slender frame forms a single, sleek interplay of lines within which the generous seat almost seems to float. As you would expect from Rob Parry, form never comes at the expense of comfort here either. The slightly reclined backrest and generous seat make long evenings effortlessly comfortable. In short: a timeless design in which Dutch modernism, craftsmanship, and exceptional seating comfort naturally come together.
