Description
Anton Lorenz, born in Budapest in 1891, was a designer and entrepreneur.
He was managing director of the Standard Möbel company, playing a key role in the dissemination and marketing of modern furniture designs, especially furniture with tubular steel frames, which significantly influenced the style of the Bauhaus avant-garde. For Anton Lorenz, tubular steel embodied the spirit of the Bauhaus movement like no other material in its pursuit of the perfect "machine aesthetic." It enabled radically new constructions such as the cantilever chair or Breuer's B3 club chair.
As managing director of Standard Möbel, he collaborated with renowned Bauhaus figures such as MART, Stam, and Marcel Breuer. He also created his own designs, such as the "LS 22" recliner and the D35 cantilever chair offered here.
Anton Loren died in the USA in 1964.
