Rare antique mechanical cigar holder with music box – Cannon (Napoleon III, ca. 1875)
For the connoisseur of exceptional antiques and fine mechanical craftsmanship: A very rare mechanical cigar holder with a built-in music box, designed as a miniature cannon from the French Napoleon III period (ca. 1873-1885).
While most variants feature a brass barrel, this rare example is crafted entirely of wood (the barrel, the wheels, and the base). A beautiful example of 19th-century turning and carving. The top of the round base is inlaid with elegant flamed burl wood and features contrasting black lacquered edges (bois noirci). On the left side is the original wooden match holder.
This object features a fascinating mechanism. The barrel itself does not slide forward but functions as a built-in carousel or dosing system. When you turn the rear of the cannon, the mechanism automatically pushes one cigar forward out of the cannon's muzzle. The built-in music box starts playing when wound with the key. The music box plays a melody from the then wildly popular French operetta "La Fille De Mme Angot" (composed by Charles Lecocq in 1873).
This object is exceptionally complete, which is rarely found with this type of mechanical tobacco antique:

* Authentic details: Part of the original 19th-century French instruction manual sticker is still present on the underside. A later collector placed a clear label above it containing the exact historical music information.

* Condition: In beautiful, authentic antique condition with a magnificent patina. The mechanism and cigar dispenser work well.
