Description
Decorative 19th-century wall clock with a painted background and classical Roman numerals. The rectangular wooden case features a gilded inner frame around the glass.
Behind the dial is a hand-painted landscape scene featuring a church building, trees, water, and mountains in the background. This type of painting was often applied to clocks from the Black Forest region and gives each piece its own character.
The mechanical movement is driven by a weight with a chain and pendulum, visible beneath the case.
Condition
Used condition commensurate with age. Wear on the gilded frame and minor signs of use on the wooden case. Mechanism visible inside the case; operation not tested.
