This is a hand-knotted Oriental rug, made from durable, natural materials. The knotting technique and diversity of patterns make this rug a one-of-a-kind piece and emphasize its authentic and artisanal character.
Rare Pao Tao, hand-knotted circa 1930. A true collector's item: a very fine and supple masterpiece with beautiful lustrous wool. Also particularly well-suited as a beautiful and unique wall decoration. A beautiful circular medallion with intricate floral patterns. Complex vases and stands filled with floral arrangements scattered across the field.
In Chinese art, the vase/vases symbolize peace. The lotus flower represents purity and happiness. These symbols of good fortune on this rug represent not only decorative value but also hold rich symbolic content.
Baotou was a major weaving center known for the production of high-quality wool. Its location along the trade routes between the other major weaving centers of Ningxia and Beijing was of great importance.
As a key trading post for excellent wool and carpets from the region, Baotou was famous early on for its pictorial carpets. Many pieces depict landscapes and animals (mountains, deer, birds, trees, and waterways) or still lifes (vases with flower arrangements, tables, books, and scrolls), sometimes accompanied by symbols of good fortune.
