An elegant depiction of Mary Magdalene in ecstasy, characteristic of devotional models inspired by 17th-century Italian Baroque painting.
The composition, centered on the face turned towards the light, reveals a delicate treatment of modeling and a great softness in the chromatic transitions. The uplifted gaze and contemplative expression place the work within the tradition of penitential figures disseminated by Guido Reni and the Bolognese school.
The high-quality execution testifies to a 19th-century academic hand, probably in a workshop setting, drawing on the great classical models that were then highly prized.
