Product description
Antique Japanese tea cabinet (cha tansu) from the late Taisho to early Showa period, made circa 1920–1950 in solid wood with sliding glass doors, conceived as a functional piece for storing and displaying tea-related utensils and everyday objects. During this transitional period in Japan, interiors evolved toward lighter and more practical solutions, where furniture such as the cha tansu combined storage, display and accessibility. These pieces were commonly used in domestic settings to organize tableware, tea implements and daily-use items. The structure presents a balanced composition between lower drawers and upper glass-front sliding compartments, allowing both protection and visibility. Metal handles and visible joinery reflect a construction that is both robust and refined, characteristic of early 20th century Japanese craftsmanship. The wood retains a deep patina with natural wear, marks and tonal variations that enhance its authenticity. The slightly aged glass reinforces its original character. Today it works beautifully as a display cabinet, sideboard or accent piece, integrating naturally into contemporary, wabi-sabi or minimalist interiors.
