Product description
A truly antique French comtoise wall clock, featuring richly decorated rocaille motifs and a beautiful polychrome chased copper front. The ornamentation and proportions convincingly place this clock within the Biedermeier period, with clear influences of the Goût Française.
The movement is fully mechanical and functions properly, which is no longer a given with this type of clock. The clock shows visible signs of age and use, befitting an authentic object of this age. These are emphatically not defects, but an honest patina that underscores the clock's provenance and history.
Such comtoises were crafted for everyday use and are therefore sought after by connoisseurs: robust, reliable, and aesthetically balanced. This example has not been restored to modern standards and has retained its character, making it of interest to collectors, antique dealers, and enthusiasts of original French timepieces.
