Product description
This antique bronze sculpture depicts Shakyamuni Buddha, originating from Burma during the eighteenth or nineteenth century. The figure is portrayed seated on a lotus base in the Bhumisparsha Mudra, the earth-touching gesture that signifies the moment of enlightenment, offering a serene and timeless presence. Crafted using the traditional lost-wax hollow-casting technique, the statue measures 37 centimetres in height and 29 centimetres in width. The simply modelled monastic robe and elongated earlobes are characteristic of Burmese Buddhist artistry from this era. The base, originally sealed, has been opened over time, revealing remnants of the original earthen casting core alongside natural mineral deposits. The bronze has developed a rich, naturally aged patina over centuries of existence. Smooth wear to prominent areas, such as the hands, knees, and face, reflects prolonged devotional use and adds profound historical character to the piece. There are no modern materials, adhesives, or visible restorations present, preserving its authentic state. This historic object serves as a compelling focal point for collectors of Asian antiquities and authentic ritual art.
