Antique Bentwood Chair in the Style of Thonet No. 56 | Austria, 1930s
Elegant antique bentwood chair in the style of the iconic Thonet Model No. 56, most likely produced in Austria during the 1930s.
The chair features a solid bent beech wood frame that has been carefully restored and finished with natural oil, highlighting the beautiful grain and warm color of the wood. The rattan seat has been completely hand-woven and professionally restored.
Although the chair bears no maker's mark, it was almost certainly produced by one of the many European manufacturers that emerged after Thonet's bentwood patent expired in the early twentieth century. Following the expiration of the patent, nearly one hundred companies across Europe adopted and further developed the famous bentwood production technique.
