This antique French Corpus Christi is made of cast lead or tin with a worn, silver-plated outer layer. These individual figurines were popular in France during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. They were manufactured by regional religious foundries and used to make custom-made devotional crosses, altar crosses, or processional crosses. The hollowed-out back of the figurine indicates that this is an authentic 19th-century casting, likely from the period between 1850 and 1900. A beautiful piece of religious, Catholic history.
