When Philips introduced these latest household appliances from the Alessi line at the Groninger Museum in October 1994, the company spoke of "trendsetters in the field of kitchen appliances" that would "delight design fans and gastronomes."
Stefano Marzano, Philips' chief designer, met Alberto and Alessandro Mendini in March 1992 at a secret location in the Netherlands. Here the perfect collaboration was formed through meetings with Philips designers and product managers. In 1994, four kitchen appliances (a toaster, a kettle, a citrus press and this coffee maker) were launched in the then new Groninger Museum in the Netherlands (Mendini was chief designer of the Groninger Museum).
The collection received many design awards and sold out very quickly.
Products from this series are included in the MoMA collection, along with many other international museums.
