This stunning lounge armchair, model "Edith," is an icon of the collaboration between the Danish design duo Aksel Bender Madsen & Henry Schubell and the Dutch furniture manufacturer Bovenkamp from Hilversum.
The chair dates from around 1960, a period in which Bovenkamp, inspired by the success of Scandinavian design, actively integrated Danish influences and craftsmanship into its collection. To this end, a licensing agreement with the renowned duo Madsen and Schubell was signed in the early 1960s, resulting in a series of timeless furniture classics with an elegant, organic design.
The "Edith" armchair is a perfect example. The sturdy frame is crafted from solid oak, while the refined armrests are crafted from beautiful teak, characteristic of the Danish Mid-Century Modern style.
We have fully restored the chair, preserving its authentic details and unique character. The armchair has been newly upholstered with premium fabric, ensuring it will provide decades of enjoyment.
A beautiful detail for the enthusiast is the original Bovenkamp stamp, which can still be found on the wood under the seat.
