For sale: AJ Royal pendant light, designed by Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen for the Danish company Louis Poulsen. Original creation from 1957. Vintage edition, original gray color. Functional wiring.
Designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in 1957 as part of a comprehensive design project where Jacobsen designed every detail of the hotel—furniture, cutlery, tableware, lighting—the AJ Royal is today one of the most iconic and universally recognized pendant lights of 20th-century Scandinavian design. Its segmented spherical shape in lacquered aluminum diffuses a soft, glare-free light downwards through a satin opal glass diffuser disc, while simultaneously allowing a luminous halo to escape upwards through its slats. A dual lighting scheme of absolute elegance and functionality.
The grey color of this vintage example is a period shade that is now rare and highly sought after by collectors.
