"There are chairs that invite you to sit. This one invites you to hesitate."
"Adolescentia no. 1" is the first work in an ongoing series of seating objects that move purposefully between utilitarian object and sculpture. It is a chair, perhaps - but it is also an affective form, a hybrid between stuffed animal, body part and pet. Covered entirely in white, long-haired plush, with bright orange climbing yarn as a tactile accent, this object refers to the elusive in-between space we call adolescence: the phase when softness becomes shameful, and the body must relate to the outside world anew.
The base is a vintage archetypal chair by Frosch Möbel - a sturdy frame of steamed beech wood - that acts as the backbone for the new skin that carries the work. Its original function has not disappeared, but transformed. What remains is a domesticated form of softness: tactile, animalistic, but no longer innocent.
This is not furniture in the traditional sense. It is an invitation to touch as well as distance. An object that does not allow itself to be categorized, but moves somewhere between sculpture, relief and seating.
