Education: He received his initial training at the Quellinus School of Applied Arts in Amsterdam.
Aart van Dobbenburgh was a Dutch artist and graphic artist. Van Dobbenburgh became known for his refined lithographs. His lithographs feature diverse subjects, such as flowers, portraits, and landscapes, but human hands were his favorite.
Van Dobbenburgh illustrated works by the Russian writers Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, among others. In 1949, Tolstoy's "War and Peace" was published, featuring lithographs of the main characters by Van Dobbenburgh. He also illustrated "Katusha" and "Maria" from Tolstoy's "Resurrection" and "Anna Karenina," based on the novels of the same name.
Exhibitions and awards:
In 1965, he received the Leo Tolstoy Medal. Shortly thereafter, Queen Juliana appointed Aart van Dobbenburgh Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. His work is represented in the Rijksprentenkabinet (National Print Room) in Amsterdam, the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag (Municipal Museum of The Hague), the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, the Museu de Ovar in Portugal, and in private collections worldwide.
