This original gouache on paper is framed with a double passe-partout. The size of the image is 40x28 cm. Genre: Surrealism Aad started drawing at a very young age. It is not surprising when you consider that he was a great admirer of his painting uncle. As a little boy he stood for days watching his painting uncle and then tried to copy it. When he applied at a later age for the Academy of Fine Art in The Hague, he was immediately placed in the second class by the admissions committee. In the period after the Academy, he was faced with the choice of establishing himself as a professional artist or taking up a job as Art Director at a publisher of illustrated magazines. It became the choice for bound art. In the meantime Aad continued to paint in his spare time and participated in competitions and group exhibitions. During this time he won the Talens Prize with his gouache. As a chess enthusiast and collector of chess games, he regularly used this theme in his paintings. Through his international contacts he exhibited nationally and internationally, including chess paintings. The development of the work from 1950 to the present is characterized by a search in styles and materials. Through realism, cubism, expressionism and abstract work, Aad now gives his own interpretation to Magic Realisme. In addition to working with gouache, soft pastel is also in good hands with him. With extreme refinement and use of color he manages to evoke an atmosphere that will not leave many viewers unmoved. We see many of his collected chess games returning in one form or another in his paintings, in which his fascination for ancient cultural design predominates. His connection with the chess world is apparent from an exhibition during the “Hoogoven” chess tournament and his membership of Chess Collectors International.
