HAY About A Chair — design by Hee Welling
A set of six About A Chair chairs with armrests by the Danish brand HAY, fully upholstered in black leather on a black powder-coated steel base.
Hee Welling designed the About A Chair in 2012 with a single premise: a single shell that fits everywhere. The result is a family of chairs where the same shell can stand on dozens of bases: wood, steel, swivel base, sled base. The numbering indicates which base is underneath. This version features an upholstered shell with armrests on a four-legged steel base: at HAY, this is the AAC 19.
What makes this set special is the leather upholstery. The vast majority of AAC chairs on the market are upholstered in Kvadrat wool; leather falls into the most expensive fabric category and is rarely found second-hand, certainly not in a complete set of six. The leather is stretched across the entire shell, including the backrest, with a single seam along the edge. The armrests are constructed from thin, curved 16 mm steel that wraps around the shell and connects to the front legs. As a result, the chair remains visually light despite the arms, and still fits under a table. In practice, it is just as suitable as a dining chair as it is for a meeting or canteen.
Six together and identically finished; that is exactly the configuration you can normally only order new. With a corresponding delivery time of weeks.
