Set of 6 Artifort Lande Jami chairs — Dutch design, large batch available
Six chairs by the Dutch company Lande, marked with the Lande label. The model is the Jami, and that design has a long history: the brothers Jas and Mies from Schijndel founded the Jami B.V. furniture factory in 1955, where this chair originated. In 1970, they sold the company to Messrs. Van der Lande and Van den Veerdonk; since then, it has been called Lande, now Artifort's project furnishing brand. Toine van den Heuvel later refined the design from within the Lande design group into the version that has stood in Dutch meeting rooms, canteens, and lecture halls for decades.
The frame *is* the entire design. A single continuous tube forms the sled base, runs upwards along the side, becomes the armrest, and finally supports the backrest. No separate legs, no visible connecting pieces; everything from the same line. Moreover, this construction gives the chair a light resilience: you do not sit rigidly on it but are gently supported.
The sled base does more than just provide stability. It distributes the weight over two long contact surfaces instead of four points, allowing the chair to glide across smooth floors without scratching. The Bakelite armrests are optional on this model and are included here. It is the material that Dutch furniture makers have returned to for decades because it does not feel cold like metal and does not wear out like wood.
The petrol blue upholstery takes the whole piece out of the office atmosphere. Against the grey frame and black Bakelite, that color works surprisingly well in a dining room or study.
Lande is a Dutch family business that has been designing and producing office furniture for decades, with an emphasis on quality and durability. The Jami is built for intensive project use, which means these chairs will effortlessly last for decades at home as well.
