On the bright white opal glass, six automotive pioneers are depicted in succession: Daimler 1892, Opel 1898, Rolls-Royce 1903, Buick 1905, Ford 1908, and Oakland 1909. Each one is depicted in a polychrome design with delightfully retro styling, featuring the manufacturer's name and the model year. Deep reds, greens, yellows, and blacks enliven the whiteness of the opal glass. A gilded rim outlines the edge of the cups and saucers, adding to the set that extra touch of refinement characteristic of 1960s tableware. Arcopal France, during the "Trente Glorieuses" period, chose this heroic age of the automobile to celebrate the extraordinary machines that had paved the way. The 1960s looking back fondly at the turn of the century. The six different designs make each cup a little collector's item in its own right. Complete with its 12 pieces, the set holds as much interest for lovers of vintage French tableware as for automotive history enthusiasts.
