Against the luminous white of the opal glass, six pioneering automobiles are depicted: Daimler 1892, Opel 1898, Rolls-Royce 1903, Buick 1905, Ford 1908, and Oakland 1909. Each is represented in a polychrome design with delightfully retro lines, featuring the manufacturer's name and the model year. Deep reds, greens, yellows, and blacks awaken the whiteness of the opal glass. A fine gold trim highlights the rim of the cups and saucers, adding to the set that extra touch of refinement characteristic of 1960s dinnerware. Arcopal France chose this heroic age of the automobile to celebrate, harking back to the "Trente Glorieuses" (the post-war boom), the extraordinary machines that had paved the way.
