Acrylic on canvas, 50 x 50 x 1.6 cm
This series transcends the simple 5 x 5 grid of sub-squares by:
Variant 1-2) grouping the base squares into double blocks, resulting in a single final square that acts as a dissolving central window—or as a keystone; or
Variant 1-3) joining the base squares into double blocks and angled blocks.
The aim is to constructively resolve several tensions: the contrast of color itself, the contrast of light and dark, and, through varying numbers of different colored subgroups, the quantitative contrast.
The overall composition emerges from arranging the sub-areas of a selected color subgroup into a primary, dominant figure that stands in harmonious or contrasting dynamic tension with the background of the surrounding secondary sub-areas.
Variant 1-3) Hispanic color scheme
