Acrylic on stretcher frame, format 80 x 80 x 3.6 cm - Due to the large-area, saturated application of paint and the 3D stretcher frame, the effect is room-filling. This series transcends the pure square grid of 5 x 5 sub-squares by: (Variants 1-3) joining the basic squares to form double blocks and angled blocks. The aim is to constructively resolve several tensions: the color-in-itself contrast, the light-dark contrast, and, through varying numbers of different colored subgroups, the quantitative contrast. By arranging the sub-areas of a selected color subgroup into a primary, dominant figure, which stands in a harmonious or contrasting-dynamic relationship to the background of the surrounding secondary sub-areas, the overall composition emerges.
