Maartje Wijngaarden started painting at a later age, and not without merit! She has gradually developed her own colorful style and 'language' with figurative and surrealistic features. In her works you can recognize (animal) figures that can also be seen in works by well-known CoBrA artists.
These oil paintings are unsigned but come from Maartje's studio. Painted on canvas and stretched on a wooden frame.
Both works are recent.
The dimensions listed are of the largest work. The smaller painting has dimensions: 50 x 40 cm. The following applies to this smaller work: the impression is that the artist has not yet arrived at the 'final touch'.

MAARTJE WIJNGAARDEN, born 1947 in 't Zand (a village in the municipality of Schagen, North Holland), painter and screen printer.
Maartje Wijngaarden is a late bloomer in art. It was not until she was 35 that she developed into a professional visual artist. Initially she painted fairly traditional landscapes and still lifes in a Neo-Impressionist style.
Gradually she developed her own handwriting with the main theme being her vision of nature and how she cares about people and animals. Animals are almost always depicted in her recent works. Sometimes she also paints scenes about the relationship between humans and animals. Her forms are always abstracted and often have black contours. The most striking is the bold and often bright use of color.
