Product description:
This Gispen armchair model, with the distinctive high headrest, was part of the seating of 4 armchairs by the fireplace in the Sonneveld home. A.H. Sonneveld was a member of the management at the Van Nelle Factory and had his villa designed in 1933 by the same architectural firm as the factory; Brinkman and van der Vlugt, entirely in the style of the New Building movement. The furniture and lighting were almost all supplied by Gispen, a friend of the family, W.H. Gispen provided custom work for the family, resulting in some existing designs undergoing minor modifications—such as thicker cushions—to accommodate their personal preference for a greater degree of luxury and comfort. In 2001, this Gispen 423 chair was reissued by Dutch Originals. These armchairs and ottoman are an exact reproduction of the model from the 1930s and have been upholstered by Dutch Originals in top-quality leather in Toledo Giallo yellow. The cushions are detachable from the frame, and the chairs as a whole are of very heavy quality.
