A pair of 'Junker' armchairs, designed by Bror Boije for DUX in 1969. The design is characterized by a solid beech wood frame with cylindrical legs and cross braces, combined with leather armrests that support loose-fitting, tufted cushions. The beech wood has a light tint that has softened over the years and contrasts with the earthy textile upholstery and saddle leather details.
The 'Junker' armchair marked a shift in Scandinavian design from the late 1960s towards more relaxed, low seating and an expressive use of natural materials. Bror Boije, active in the 1960s and 70s, became known for furniture that combined sculptural clarity with a straightforward, functional approach. DUX, one of Sweden's leading furniture manufacturers, embraced designers like Boije, who explored new forms for modern living while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship. Comfortable and inviting, these armchairs add both character and functionality to an interior. The organic materials and generous cushions make them suitable for living rooms, reading nooks, or lounge areas, where they offer both durability and atmosphere.
