Set of two Vintage Tecta D43 chairs – William Dunkel A characterful set of two Tecta D43 armchairs, based on the D15 designed for Tecta in the 1960s by Swiss architect and Bauhaus teacher William Dunkel. The D43 was later further developed by Tecta into a softer, more organic variant. Tecta describes the model as an interplay of warm wickerwork and cool steel; the design's origins with William Dunkel are described in more detail by Dieter Horn. The wide, continuous wickerwork forms the back and armrests as a single enveloping shell. Beneath it, the slender tubular frame appears to float almost off the floor — precisely the light, springy character for which the classic cantilever is known. This version features a particularly beautiful, natural cream to sand color. The seat cushions are upholstered in soft suede, whose subtle color nuances and signs of wear complement the wickerwork well. The contrast with the cool metal frame gives the chairs a calm yet distinctive appearance. The set is in beautiful vintage condition with normal signs of age and use. The light patina, discoloration, and minor imperfections have been intentionally preserved and give both chairs their own character. A comfortable and architectural set that looks great at a dining table, but also works excellently as two separate armchairs in a modern or eclectic interior.
