Product description
Fine art print of an iconic Rotterdam cityscape from 1961. The photo shows in the foreground the stairs of the Beurs building, and in the background the modernist department store De Bijenkorf, designed by Marcel Breuer.
What makes this composition special is the tight and rhythmic interplay of lines: the horizontal lines of the stairs lead the eye diagonally through the image, while the vertical columns and facades of the buildings form a strong contrast. This interplay of lines gives the photograph depth, structure and an almost graphic character. The lone figure on the stairs provides a human accent within this geometric composition.
